About Me

Meet the Scribs & Nibs

But first, who are you?

You are likely on this travel blog because you dared ask me what I did this weekend. Consider this your long-form WhatsApp message with all the deets…

If you’ve landed here purely by the grace of the Google SEO Gods then: Welcome. My Starbucks name is Tia.  My real name is Attiya. I’m currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa because my love, Wilhelm, got a job here! We moved from Washington, DC in December 2020 and now call Joburg “home.”

If you want the elevator pitch about me: As a Pakistani-American (half/half), I’ve jumped between Pakistan and the US until I was around 10. Then my parents’ job took our family to live overseas in Sudan, Egypt, and Jordan. After graduating from high school in Jordan, I went to the US to do my undergrad, grad school, and then work around the Washington, DC area.

Consider yourself a friend and get some inspiration and ideas for your next trip!

Why the “Scribs & Nibs”?

These are my travel scribbles and photos of my nibbles (aka: nibs, snackette, snackaro…) because I am like a goat and must graze every couple of hours.

For us, traveling is a combination of views, adventures, a fun place to stay, and NIBS! A great meal (or a series of snacks) completes the day for us and so you’ll find some travel days revolve around making sure we get a taste of the best food in an area.

I am my own editor! Scary: if you see a typo or mistake, lemme know plz.

My Photo-losophy:

I love taking photos! But I don’t love spending a lot of time on lighting, posing, outfits… I usually take about 10 seconds to take a scenic picture and half the time I’m walking as I take the picture. The other half of the time, I have thrust the phone into Wilhelm’s hands to point and shoot. Not exactly travel blogging goals but it works for me. I’m usually wearing the same outfits (especially for hiking!), and 95% of food pictures likely feature Wilhelm. I sometimes lightly edit the pictures you’ll see in the blog. Though, my main goal is just to give you an idea of what some sites will actually look like if you visit if you’re like me and don’t spend a lot of time making your pictures insta-perfect!

As an affiliate of Viator and Amazon, I may earn a small commission if you book using the links on this site.

I personally use Viator and Get Your Guide to book experiences in South Africa and globally. Usually, my credit card gets blocked or a company won’t accept an American credit card (that doesn’t use 3D authentication) and so I can’t book directly with a tour operator, especially in South Africa To avoid getting my credit card blocked or having a payment denied, I typically book via Viator (which owns Trip Advisor) or Get Your Guide This is why I suggest it for my affiliate links. I only recommend companies that I’ve used or considered using. I also have links for companies that my friends have used and liked.

I typically book via Expedia and get my cars from Discover Cars or within Expedia. I used to book more frequently with Booking.com but recently Expedia has had better deals for me.
