One Day Africa Cape Town Bicycle Tour

The One Day Africa Cape Town Bicycle Tour is a great way to explore Cape Town in a unique way with a cool guide who knows both the history of the city and its art. I first met our One Day Africa guide, Sipho, when I visited Cape Town in October 2021 for the Salt River Street Art Tour. I highly recommend the Salt River tour as well.

Even if you’ve seen some of the sights on the tour route, it’s a different experience biking and learning directly from a Cape Town expert!

Cape Town Bicycle Tour Basics:

  • R650/pp
  • You can pay via EFT or message the company to request a booking link to pay via credit card
  • Meet at Pang Specialty Coffee
  • Tour begins at 10am or 1pm and lasts 3 hours

Parking and Starting Point

For 5 hours of parking, I paid R100 right outside Pang Specialty Coffee. First, I paid R20 upfront in cash. Later, I was charged R80 by card. Although it was pricey, the attendant was official and there were set rates for parking downtown. Plus, she pretty much watched my car the entire time and so I felt the car was *super* safe.

Although the tour was only 3 hours, we spent around 2 hours at Pang for coffee and later on lunch nearby at Meeting Point.

The One Day Africa Cape Town Bicycle Tour Route

We started off at Pang and meet Sipho at 10am. The tour explores the history, urban landscape, and street art in the City Centre, District Six, the Company Gardens, Green Point Park, and the V&A Waterfront.

Getting ready to make moves on the streets of Cape Town!

One of my favorite things about going on a tour with Sipho is that he points out all the hidden gems around town. Walking around without a guide, you wouldn’t notice the historical significance of the buildings and areas.

At the V&A, we saw colorful rhino sculptures and learned about this exhibit to bring attention to endangered rhinos.

We saw where Nelson Mandela made his first speech after being released from prison.

Sipho will also explain the ins and outs of street art regulations in Cape Town, which is much different from Joburg.

Bike Safety with One Day Africa

I felt safe biking around Cape Town. I’m a moderate city biker (in Joburg). My brother and sister are not frequent bikers, but they had no issues navigating the streets.

Sipho is patient with bike speed. He makes sure that everyone sticks together when crossing the roads and is clear about what the next turns will be.

Be sure to request a helmet ahead of time to ensure that there are enough available for your group.

Rook Bikes

You’ll have some of the coolest bikes in South Africa: Rook Cycles. The bikes are single-speed.

Bonus:

After the tour, go have lunch at my fav Cape Town restaurant. Just a couple of minutes walk down the road after you drop your bikes off, you’ll find Meeting Point. This Tanzanian restaurant is laid-back and the portions are huge and tasty. It’s the perfect spot after a bike ride. Get a couple of dishes to share and a cup of Tanzanian chai.
