Artistry: A Fresh Restaurant in Sandton
Artistry is the brainchild of J’Something, singer, and songwriter most known as the lead singer of Mi Casa. The restaurant (and eventual arts space) gives Sandton a fresh new feel. With washed-out brick flooring, plenty of sunlight, and even a pool, Artistry already feels like a place to spend hours with friends or have an intimate dinner for someone special.
The Basics
- Around R500 per person for dinner
- Breakfast and lunch/dinner menu available, with veg options
- Great drinks
- Mini plunge pool and bar area
- 7am-10pm, daily
- Reservations recommend, make a booking online.
The Vibe Artistry
Upon entering, the airy and light feel of the restaurant really takes hold. Artistry is perfectly situated for lots of light—so much light in fact that there are cute fans on every table that you can use to shield yourself from the sun. I loved this small touch, which can make a big difference to a dining experience.
Out on the deck, you’ll find the DJ space and the mini plunge pool!
Besides the main restaurant area, you can take a walk past the bathrooms to another bar area.
The concept of Artistry (food, bar, art, and music) gives me serious Braam or Maboneng vibes rather than Sandton. However, unique spots like this belong all over Joburg!
I’d suggest visiting for a group dinner, a special dinner date, or just drinks with friends (with a dip in the pool). Artistry has all the right elements to make it an all-day hangout.
Artistry Menu
The Artistry has two menus—one for breakfast and another for lunch/dinner.
Breakfast
I definitely will be back to try the breakfast. I’m intrigued by anything that’s a bagel. Plus, the breakfast bun sounds delish and will probably be easy to make into a veg version. I have a vision to have a breakfast bagel and coffee while taking a dip in the pool. Do you see it?! I’ll update this post immediately when I make it happen.
Lunch & Dinner
We visited to celebrate Wilhelm’s birthday for dinner around 6pm. This was the perfect time to get a drink with an appetizer as sunset approached. As with any restaurant in Joburg, I suggest you make a reservation in advance for anything after 6pm. Artistry was just in its second week of opening when we visited; reservations are necessary for weekend dining.
Artistry Lunch & Dinner Menu
We split guacamole to start with and I loved it! The chips seemed freshly crisped and had a sprinkle of hot chili pepper. Next time, I’d want to try the Tuna Tartare. The Breaking Bread also sounded great with the chakalaka dip.
For mains, we ordered the Peri Peri Prawns and the Chili No Carne, with a side of Creamed Spinach. Although I wasn’t totally blown away by the dishes, they were good staples. Next time, I’d try one of the pizzas. The burgers and grills also look like great options.
I loved my Berry and Mint Smash cocktail and Wilhelm’s Elderflower French 75.
We spent R1080 for two drinks, one appetizer, two mains, and sparkling water, plus a tip for 2 people. For a Sandton dinner with classy and fresh vibes, the cost was reasonable.
Throughout our drinks and dinner experience, the service was excellent.
More Than Food
There are plans in the works to expand the space into a performance area (on one of the floors) with special events. Hopefully, we will visit one of these soon! Follow Artistry on Instagram or Facebook for updates.
There are about 10 parking spaces available at the venue. When we arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday, the lot was empty. However, some reviews online state that the parking is full, so I suggest ubering in the evening (also so you can take advantage of the drinks!).
Considering we visited during Artistry’s second week of existence, I’d say everything can only get better. Usually when I visit and review new restaurants, either the food or service hasn’t gelled yet. Artistry avoided all the opening pains I’m used to seeing. They put out good food and great service.
I love these floors! I feel like I’m in a classy tavern.
The post will be updated when I get into the pool!
