Pablo House’s Dos Manos Restaurant Review

Dos Manos is a cozy sundowner spot located in Melville’s Pablo House hotel. The steep drive up to the hotel certainly makes it worth the uber fare because of the city-jungle-type views that you’ll find at Dos Manos. Uber? Yes. There is no restaurant parking on this windy road and guests are told to Uber.

Because I called just 30 minutes before we arrived to make a reservation, the kind man on the phone said it was okay to park in the sparse hotel parking but next time I will have to uber. It makes sense. I felt like the car was going to tip over as I was parking it. From some other reviews I’ve read online, there has been confusion with the hotel staff about where to park at the shopping center down the road. You’d have to walk up/down the hills in the dark to get to the restaurant anyway. Perhaps they are not recommending this anymore. It’s really for your own good to Uber to Dos Manos.

When I called to confirm that the restaurant was open on a Tuesday, I was also told that I should make a reservation. There are just a couple of tables at the restaurant so if you are planning to head here for dinner, call in advance to make a reservation, even if it is just 30 minutes before.

Treetop Vibes

At 6:30pm, Dos Manos just had two other tables taken. By the time we left an hour later, three more tables were filled. The restaurant describes itself as a quiet night away from Joburg’s fine dining scene.

I really liked the cozy, fire-lit vibe with a green view overlooking the city. Although you won’t get skyline views (at least from what I could see), you’ll be above the Joburg treetop.

The evening ambiance here is perfect for sundowners that turn into dinner. I got the lemongrass mule, and many of the drinks looked good to me.

Dos Manos Food

For some reason, I thought that Dos Manos only served pizza. I was wrong! The menu on the website is outdated. There is a nice selection not only of what they call “Puff-Puff” pizzas, but also pasta, meat, and seafood dishes. Unfortunately, I’m ashamed to say I forgot to take a picture of the menu… But, the Dos Manos menu on Uber Eats is correct. That said, don’t get ideas to start ordering in from Dos Manos, I think the vibe at the restaurant is what makes it a nice sundowner and dinner spot.

We got the Puff-Puff Porcelain Veg pizza and 3 sides: wood-fired corn on the cob, spinach moroho, and broccoli. For two people, we spent around R500.

The service was fast when we visited, and we were pretty hungry. Huge plus.

Would I return? Yes. I will definitely come back for a chill evening, as it’s just 10 minutes from our apartment, for a drink and a pizza. I’ve also got my eye on some of the pasta dishes…
