Kayak on the Bay
Kayak on the Bay is located in Praslin on the eastern coast of St. Lucia. It’s a fantastic experience to enjoy the morning. Kayak on the Bay is a family-run company and it was so cute. We met the owner along with her family (including her mother who is the cook!).
Start off your adventure at the launch site and restaurant.
Kayak on the Bay Logistics
We started the tour at 10am, as suggested by the company. As we were staying nearby at Spice Bay Suites, the drive was just 10 minutes for us. If you’re in the capital, Castries, it’ll be about a 45-minute drive.
Use Instagram to contact and book your tour. That’s what I did! The response time was very quick.
Kayak rentals are for two hours with lunch included for EC 130 per person. We paid via cash.
You can get a single or a double kayak. I’d go nowhere without Wilhelm (plus I occasionally freak out on kayaks) so we needed a double. Getting into the boat at the launch site was a simple and easy process, with the help of two staff members. However, getting into the kayak ourselves on the island was a mess haha.
Everything (!!) is going to get wet. Bring a dry bag for any electronics. We only brought sunscreen, one phone, and our snorkeling gear (which we didn’t end up using).
Island Adventure
The most popular route to go on with Kayak on the Bay is out to the island, spend about an hour or so there, then kayak to the sea moss farm, and finally back to the launch point.
The island has a path to the top for some views.
You can search for the unique St. Lucia lizard, which has all the blue, yellow, black, and white colors in the Saint Lucia flag. The lizard is pretty shy though!
The water was a little rough for swimming and snorkeling. I didn’t go in the water all the way and Wilhelm attempted to snorkel but said everything was brown.
Sea Moss Farm
Sea moss is such an odd and interesting aspect of St. Lucia. Dried, it’s a reddish color and you can add it to smoothies (or whatever else) as a food thickener. I was told it kinda is like an aloe vera drink consistency when blended with water.
If you end up loving sea moss, you can easily buy it at the supermarket in powder form.
At lunch, we had a delicious sea moss and fruit smoothie.
Lunch with Kayak on the Bay
At 12pm, we reached the launch site again to end with lunch. You have the option of either eating lunch on the small island or back at the launch site.
We were told there was a big group coming to have lunch around 11am on the island, so we decided to have lunch at the launch site/restaurant area, which worked out perfectly because we weren’t hungry enough for a full lunch before 12pm!
We opted for the fish, but you can let them know your dietary preferences in advance and get a veg meal too!
