Top 5 Things to do in Titisee: a Black Forest Town in Germany

Titisee is a town in the Black Forest region in Germany. It’s a popular summer destination for water activities and lounging. It’s also a stop on the Der Himmelreich – Jakobusweg hiking trail, which translates to the “Kingdom of Heaven Way of St. James for All” trail, isn’t that a pretty name for a trail? My husband’s grandmother leaves just 10 minutes away from Titisee so I’ve been able to visit like a local over the years.

1- Take a Hike around Titisee Lake

It took us about an hour and 20 minutes to walk around the lake. There is a path that starts in town, follows the highway, and then joins up with a trail to the other side (if you go clockwise). You’ll turn left at the Museum für Landtechnik (which is a super cute building) and loop around back to town. The walk took us around 1.5 hours at a moderate pace.

You can stop along the way for a beer here at the snack bar about half-way through the walk. This is part of the Terrassencamping Sandbank camping site, which gets popular over the summer. The path is entirely paved and flat.

The Der Himmelreich – Jakobusweg Trail also passes through Titisee. Check out the map below for more details.

2- Grab a beer

Get a beer at one of the beer gardens after walking around the main strip of shops. I liked Bergsee Restaurant because of the cute sign. The beer is around 4 euros.

If you want a lakefront view (or to hide from the rain as we did one cold summer day with Wilhelm’s brother Fredrick and our friend Måns), get one of the traditional German dishes at Gaststätte Bootshaus.

For something a little further away, Wilhelm’s grandmother has been visiting the restaurant at Gasthaus zum Kreuz for years. They serve up traditional German food with a modern vibe; think veg options and fish. I’ve been twice on our visits and the food is great! I especially love the dishes with mushroom foam.

3- Lake Activities

Take a dip in the lake or go on a boat ride. There is a pirate ship-style boat and even “donut” boats available for rent from here.

There are electric and padel boats available for rent by the half-hour or hour. The electric motorboat costs 22 euros for half an hour and 40 euros for a full hour. The Pedal boat is just 8 euros for half an hour and 15 euros for the full hour.

Swimming is possible from the park areas.

4- Shop for souvenirs

Stop inside the shops to take a look at the cuckoo clocks (nice ones go for 300 euros or more!) or buy yourself a beer mug (at a more affordable 25-ish euros). I liked this shop. It also had these funny meat and beer (with a mug) pre-packaged gifts.

5- Take a ride on the Ferris wheel!
