A Fall Day at Stone Tower Winery

Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg, Virginia, is an easy escape from city life on the weekend. Just about an hour from D.C., this spot is known for its great views and good wine. Whether you’re planning a casual day with friends or a fun date, it’s an easy way to get out into nature without going too far.

I went with my mom and sister for a girls’ day — it was the perfect fall outing (and lots of pictures)!

Stone Tower is also a well-known wedding venue, and we even saw one setting up while we were there.

The Basics of Visiting Stone Tower Winery

  • About 1 hour from D.C., located here with easy parking on-site
  • No need for reservations (if you’re under 8 people)
  • Wine and food available
  • Open Thursday – Monday from 11am-6pm
  • Check out the winery website for events

Wine Tasting

Stone Tower offers tastings for $25 per person, and include a mix of sparkling, red, white, and rosé wines from their estate. The tastings are done inside the Harvest Barn Tasting Room.

No reservations are needed for small groups, but weekends can get busy so come around 11 or 12pm. Don’t worry, they serve coffee too if you get there too early to start drinking…

You can also sit outside and order a glass of wine for around $12-17. We opted to do this rather than just do the tasting.

The Food

I really enjoyed our salad and pizza, both of which were on their seasonal menu. The food was fresh, simple, and paired nicely with our wine. If you’re planning to snack, it’s definitely worth ordering something on-site — outside food isn’t allowed.

Explore the Grounds

Stone Tower Winery also has specialty tours and experiences.

  • You can go on a cellar tour for $35/pp and get a behind the scenes look at how wines are made.
  • For $135/pp you can go on a golf cart ride through the vineyards tasting wines along the way. You’ll also explore the production factory and have a three-course lunch.

You can also explore the grounds alone and take some lovely photos, like we did. A wedding was happening during our visit, so we couldn’t access every area, but there was still plenty to see.
