afro-boer: Garden Hideaway Cafe in Pretoria

As much as I would like to take credit for everything I blog about, I can’t. Wilhelm usually finds most of the cool places we visit and afro-boer was no exception. I typically feel that Joburg has so much to offer and so much to do that I don’t often visit Pretoria. On a Sunday with errands to do in Pretoria, we opted to combo our 50-minute drive with visits to new cafes. We first visited Sorcery Coffee (another must-visit that’s worth the drive from Joburg) and after our errands came to afro-boer for lunch with friends.

The cafe is open every day of the week from 7am to 6pm.

The afro-boer vibe

afro-boer is set inside a hidden garden off the main road of Lynnwood. You won’t hear traffic or noise while you’re at the cafe. There is garden seating and indoor seating available. Both spots are cozy though in the winter months you’ll want to dine inside if you don’t find a spot in the sun.

White blazer plus beets is a bad idea and it’s off to the dry cleaner already.

Food at afro-boer

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, visit the counter to check out the baked goodies available. Come early for this! We arrived around 3pm and most of the baked goods were already gone. (Do you spot the rainbow cake below tho… looks tasty)

Vegans will find the stunning rainbow flatbread delish and filling. I loved the coconut-based flatbread and anything with a ton of beetroot on it is a winner for me. Wilhelm got the goddess salad which was also really good. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the offerings!

Drinks at afro-boer

Besides coffee classics, afro-boer also offers loose leaf green tea as well rooibos and white tea. I opted for something totally different and got the beetroot latte, which was a creamy combo of beets, almond milk, and a ton of ginger. Next time I’ll try the turmeric latte. Our friends got the Retro Marie-marshmallow hot chocolate which was perfect on a chilly afternoon.

Kids can enjoy the cute playground.

You can host your event at afro-boer and it seems like the perfect spot to do so. Check out their offerings here. Online ordering is also possible for cakes, tarts, and quiches.
