Sorcery Coffee: A Cafe with a View in Pretoria

Joburgers, if you’ve got something to do in Pretoria, definitely make enough time to visit the wonderful Sorcery Coffee cafe. Here you can order delicious coffee and sweet and savory treats.

Immediately upon entry, I understood what all the hype has been about on insta. Even on the chilly but sunny winter’s day we visited, the cafe was alive and bustling. Order at the counter then wait for your coffee. You’ll be told a ticket number for your food.

Located inside the Diep in die Berg venue, Sorcery Coffee is nestled in the Bronberg Mountain Range and has a view over the ridge and Pretoria’s suburbs. There are two main seating areas at Sorcery Coffee. The first is by the cafe where you’ll order and the second is in a boma-type area that encompasses the cafe’s overlook.

The most insta-perfect view of the cafe is in this frame below. The spot gets filled quickly though so keep your eye out. I managed to snag a spot only the second time we visited (where new shade covers were also put up in the lower courtyard too).

Sorcery Coffee carries several kinds of coffee, as well as incredible brownies, croissants, quiches, and more. Check out the large blackboard when you arrive. We had a brownie to share. Wilhelm also ordered a croissant and I had the spinach and feta quiche. In the summer, try the Hazelnut Iced Coffee. Everything was great.

There are people working on computers while others are with families or on dates. I really enjoyed the atmosphere

The basics of visiting Sorcery Coffee

  • There’s plenty of parking available. Just drive uphill to the entrance.
  • Only cards are accepted on site.
  • The cafe is open Monday through Friday at 8am-6pm. On Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays 9am-5pm. There are two locations in Pretoria and you’ll want to visit the one in Diep in Die Berg here. (The other location is in Colbyn located here.)
  • If you fall in love with your cup of coffee, you can buy beans from here too. Fans of South American coffee will be happy to know there are Brazil and Colombia roasts available for sale.

Sorcery Coffee is definitely worth the drive from Joburg. You can easily make a morning or afternoon out of visiting the cafe by bringing your laptop, book, or journal. Or, combo it with some errands you have around Pretoria like we did.
